We find ourselves wondering how we got to a place of feeling so removed from a sense of peace, happiness and well-being? I have learnt time and time again to apply the practices which are helpful in navigating these difficult times. In this video I share a very simple and easy to apply mindful exercise which helps to deal with difficult emotions such as anxiety when it arise in your body. YOU ARE MORE THAN YOUR EGO
Do you find yourself getting caught up in stories about your life, who you are and your very identity? Do these stories leave you feeling stuck, anxious, depressed or lonely? There are some stories that keep up trapped in the, ‘not good enough’, ‘not strong enough’ OR ‘I can’t do this’ mentality. These are the stories that keep us feeling separate from others and the world around us. They are fueled by our fears and they keeps us frozen, static and limit our potential & growth. We’ve been led to belief… these stories are all we are and all we’ll ever be. We’re told (by some), ‘you’re depressed, you’re anxious, you’re sick’…that you are your thoughts, you’re an isolated and separate being - and that’s it. I find myself slipping in and out of these stories over and over… it’s a constant cycle! I found myself ‘stuck’ in a series of particular stories recently as I’ve been going through a huge transition. I chose not to push the narrative away… but instead, I allowed myself to hold space for the stories that were coming up, watching them grow and shift into opportunities for deeper and deeper healing… What we often don’t get told or taught is these labels and stories are not the truth of who we really are. Then, who are we really? There is an intuitive wisdom that is already IN you – that you already possess. An expansive, coherent and whole self – a witness that observes and is connected to a ‘whole’. From this space a new story can be written. This is the story that values what you’ve experienced: your trauma, your wounds, your difficulties and the learning and growth and wisdom that has been brought about by living these experiences fully. These are the stories we are here to share. In this video, I talk about my belief that we are, ‘spiritual beings having a human experience’ and that our journey towards greater healing comes from acknowledging our ego, our identity and our stories – then being able to step into an awareness that goes beyond this. Let me know if this resonates with you. Have you experienced being able to step away from your ‘identity’ anwd observe what’s going on, from a more expansive place? What story would you re-write about your life, if you were able to?
How to Cultivate Self-Compassion
Many of us have a deep desire to overcome old belief systems, habits, wounds and trauma. We can be very aware of our challenges and difficulties, yet we still find ourselves getting caught in these destructive belief systems - which can cause even more suffering and pain. This can become a self-perpetuating cycle where we add layers of guilt and shame onto ourselves throughout our healing process. I have found one of the most crucial ingredient to healing our old wounds is our ability to hold and cultivate compassion for ourselves and others, for what we have experienced and what we’re experiencing currently. Compassion isn’t sympathy, it isn’t feeling sorry for ourselves or becoming a victim to our circumstances. Compassion is about recognising our suffering, holding space for it – on an individual and collective level – remembering that difficult experiences and emotions are part of being human. It’s about sending ourselves forgiveness, love and taking time to hear and listen to those parts of us that do feel wounded, that do suffer, and that do feel pain. We’re not trying to get rid of these emotions or ignore our wounds – this is not healing but rejection of ourselves and it only creates more fragmentation. Healing is about integration and staying with the emotions long enough to bring them closer to us. When we do this, those destructive belief systems or behaviors starts to lose grip. I am a big fan of Kristin Neff’s work on self-compassion and this short self-compassion exercise is something you can practice on a daily basis. I’d like to set you a challenge to practice this every day for the next week. Yes every day! it’s a 3-5 minutes practice which you can do when travelling to work each day, just before you go to bed or when walking the dog. Set yourself a reminder to put it into your schedule. Let me know how it goes and what shifts for you in the process.
What is Psychospiritual Transformation?
What is psychospiritual transformation? This video is an introduction to the worldview that we are ‘spiritual beings having a human experience’ and we are on an individual and collective journey of self-realisation or self-actualisation - moving towards greater wholeness. The process of psychospiritual transformation can also be understood as spiritual emergence or spiritual awakening and this journey is acknowledged by various spiritual traditions and belief systems around the world. The term psychospiritual acknowledges the whole of our being - the psyche (mind), the body and the spirt and unites psychological and spiritual perspectives in relation to our path of healing, transformation and growth. This video is an introduction to the topic and also to the next Paradigm Explorers talk which I will be hosting on 9th February, 2020 at 4-6pm as part of the Scientific and Medical Network. Paradigm Explorers: London is a monthly meetup group for graduates & postgraduates in the science, psychology & other related fields. The group goals are: -Creating a space for graduates & postgraduates to meet & discuss science, consciousness, & other related topics. -Introducing graduates & postgraduates to the Scientific & Medical Network -Providing a platform for graduates & postgraduates to present & talk on topics they are studying & researching -Providing opportunities for graduates & postgraduates to publish their research. We will discuss in more detail: ・Theories surrounding psychospiritual transformation ・What events or experiences act as catalysts or accelerate our journey of transformation? ・How do we distinguish mental/physical ‘illnesses’ for the process of spiritual emergence? ・Spiritual Emergence vs spiritual emergency and the ‘spectrum of experiences’ ・How is a theoretical framework helpful in navigating the journey of transformation/emergence? ・What tools can help us navigate experiences of transformation and how do we apply these tools to our lives? During the workshop we will have the opportunity to map out and reflect on our personal journey with an EXPERIENTIAL exercise. How to let go of Habits, Beliefs & Behaviours from the Past
For more visit my website: www.theunboundself.com ⭐️Do you want to let go of an old way of being, an old habit or belief system that just doesn’t serve you anymore? 🗣We often receive strong signs, which let us know that it’s time to make dramatic shifts in our life. These signs can be understood as a type of burnout where: you're finding it hard to make decisions; activities that use to give you purpose are not fulfilling anymore; you feel distant from those around you; conflicted; tired; you're getting sick a lot and are feeling overwhelmed… 🦋I have found it is usually these ‘signs’ that push people into a significant transformation, which is usually a very transitional period of their lives. There is a pull towards living a life that is more in alignment with their authentic self… ⭐️I have personally been through this process - where I experienced a point of burnout – I couldn’t ignore the ‘signs’ anymore. The signs said that I needed to change my life. It was a strong calling to start shifting my habits and ways of being and from my experience, I have found it takes a lot of courage to step away from what is familiar, what you’re used to… 👋If you resonate with this – and you’re in the midst of a significant transition or change - it can be helpful to ask yourself: what is important to me? What do I want to stand for in my life? Are the actions I’m taking now leading me towards this, or away from this? ❤️Look at what choices you’re making and use your values to guide you. Notice how these choices and questions help you to let go of old ways of being. Check out my latest video and please share, comment or like ❤️
