Connection to Self
The experience of the spiritual Self is a sense of freedom, of expansion, of communication with other Selves and with reality, and there is the sense of Universality.
What is the Self?
Roberto Assagioli the founder of psychosynthesis, describes the Self as an experience, not a conception. We can formulate the experience, more or less, in a conception; but it is an experience. This Self is different from our personality, ego or mind.
The first step toward the experience of the Self is to achieve the experience of the “I”. The “I” is the personal center of awareness and will. It is the observer and the director, and is distinct from the contents of consciousness.
Connecting with the Self
When we go through periods of chaos and challenge, it is helpful to connect with our internal 'sun' the element of fire, which enables us to feel empowered and take positive action from a more centred space. It's important that we connect with this part of us in a loving way – not forcing this connection but allowing this energy to arise from a place of authenticity.
The energy I'm referring to here is that of the Solar Plexus Chakra and the element of fire. When we connect with this energy we're also connecting to the qualities of power, self-esteem and strength. When this energy centre is functioning properly, it enables us to give and receive energy from our environment, stay strong, and grounded and set healthy boundaries from a place of internal strength.
Within our Transpersonal Coaching sessions, there is an emphasis on coming into deeper connection and relationships with Self, and from this place, we are able to work with the parts of our psyche that have been wounded or are in conflict with each other. Our Self-energy is always present so it's a process of exploring what helps us to come into connection with this energy so we feel grounded, anchored and centred to work with the more challenging parts of our experience.
